Infection Control
The Infection Prevention and Control Department at ELARABY Hospital aims to be a center of excellence in Egypt and Africa in applying international and local standards of infection prevention and control, and in training health care service providers to promote a safe environment for patients, workers and visitors, enhance the continuous quality improvement as well as strengthening and consolidating the concepts of infection control in the community, target the radical prevention of hospital-acquired infections.

The Infection Prevention and Control Department at ELARABY Hospital aims to:
• Be a center of excellence in Egypt and Africa in applying international and local standards of infection prevention and control, and in training health care service providers to promote a safe environment for patients, workers and visitors.
• Enhance the continuous quality improvement as well as strengthening and consolidating the concepts of infection control in the community.
• Target the radical prevention of hospital-acquired infections.
• The most important features that distinguish the Infection Control Department at ELARABY Hospital is that:
• Isolation rooms in the hospital are equipped by the team pursuant to the international standards. Isolation rooms have been set up, comprising two negative pressure rooms to serve patients with airborne diseases, in addition to two positive pressure rooms in the intensive care unit (ICU) to serve immuno-compromised patients. Also, each inpatient floor is equipped with isolation room, to ensure safe patient care environment.
• Within each department, a liaison nurse is present to closely apply infection control procedures.
• The operation theaters comprise capsulated rooms equipped with an advanced laminar air flow ventilation system which provide ultra-clean air to ensure that there are no pollutants and microbes in the air of the operating room to prevent contamination of surgical sites.
• The infection control team conducts daily visits to all departments to monitor compliance with infection control standards and provide continuous consultations and
training for workers to prevent acquired infections.
• Developing general and specialized training courses in infection prevention and control for groups, hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
• Providing consultations to hospitals and healthcare facilities in the field of infection prevention and control that comprise evaluating the current program and system, analyzing the gaps, developing an action plan, preventive measures and conducting follow-up.
• The infection control department cooperates with the Arab Institute for Continuing Professional Development to train infection control diploma graduates to apply
international standards, in addition to cooperation with Egyptian universities.
• ELARABY Hospital has a modern, environmentally friendly unit for the safe disposal and treatment of infectious and hazardous medical waste.
